The Health Support Services department is preparing for the upcoming Open Enrollment period. In October 2018, New York State of Health announced that open enrollment for 2019 plans would run from November 1, 2018 to January 31, 2019. Enrollment in NY State of Health — including Qualified Health Plans, the Essential Plan, Medicaid, and Child Health Plus — reached more than 4.3 million by the end of January 2018 (when open enrollment ended for QHPs). That was an increase of 700,000 over the prior year’s total enrollment.
In an effort to increase community outreach, HSS has attended several events in the area including the Dunkirk Farmers Market, Dunkirk Middle Schools Meet, Greet and Eat, and COI’s Head Start Orientation. Staff will continue to conduct educational sessions and scheduling opportunities through the fall and winter months by attending the Ashville Methodist Church Food Truck event on October 23rd, NYSOH informational sessions at the CVS pharmacy in Jamestown on November 1st and the TOPS pharmacy in Dunkirk on December 13th. These educational sessions provide a much needed service to the community. Many individuals do not know that the New York Marketplace offers a wide variety of health care plans to fit any budget and that they just might qualify for a no or low cost health plan.
