Head Start Enrollment
In 1965, on the heels of Lyndon B. Johnson’s declaration of a “War on Poverty”, the Director of the Office of Economic Opportunity, Sargent Shriver, developed a child development program designed to meet the needs of preschool children in disadvantaged communities. This program is what we now know as Head Start, and Chautauqua Opportunities is proud to be apart of the 1,700 agencies nationwide that provide Head Start and Early Head Start services.
As we celebrate Head Start’s 53rd birthday, Chautauqua Opportunities continues to provide a comprehensive program designed to nurture and strengthen children’s social, emotional and academic skills, and gives them a strong foundation for Kindergarten and beyond. Our Early Head Start program provides services for infants and toddlers to enrich their social, emotional and intellectual development, as well as provide services for pregnant women, and families.
If you are living in the Jamestown or Dunkirk areas and are interested in Head Start or Early Head Start, we are currently enrolling children from 0-5 in our Early Childhood programs. You can find more information by visiting our website or by calling (716) 366-8176 in Dunkirk or (716) 661-9430 in Jamestown.
