Starting a Family Child Care Business…
Every day is different and offers the challenges and rewards that come with caring for children and running a business. For those who love children and enjoy working with them, operating a family child care business from their own homes can be the perfect venture. Far from “babysitting,” a professional child care provider follows New York State regulations and offers high-quality developmentally appropriate programming in a home setting that is safe and nurturing for children.
For several years before becoming the Chautauqua Child Care Council’s Director, Susan Marker, owned and operated a child care program from her residence in order to be at home with her own children and provide a second income for her family. Above all, Susan wanted to provide an environment where children could grow and learn and thrive. Hers was a program where children had an opportunity to develop their social skills while they also had access to a variety of developmentally appropriate activities as well as nutritious meals. With first-hand knowledge of running a family child care business, Susan can highly recommend this as a great career choice for those who have the desire to help children get the kind of start that will benefit them throughout their lives.
In June, the Council will offer an information session for those considering becoming a registered or licensed family child care provider. A light meal will be provided. Attend either session: Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc., 402 Chandler Street in Jamestown on Monday, June 25, 2018, from 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM or Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc., Connections North, 10825 Bennett Road, Dunkirk, on Thursday, June 28, 2018, from 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM. There is no charge to attend;however, registration is required. Please contact one of our Registrars, at 716-661-9430 ext. 2290 or ext. 2289 by June 18th.
