COI provides a number of Prevention services to assist families that are facing homelessness because of eviction, foreclosure, bankruptcy, utility arrears, family relationships, fire or other natural disaster. Our Housing Support Specialists help customers match their needs to available housing in the area. The assistance also includes a financial analysis that provides the customer guidelines for affordable housing (including how to estimate utility costs) and comparison rental cost data for the local community.
If you meet the income guidelines, you may be eligible for assistance in paying past due rent in order to prevent an eviction, assistance with first month’s rent to find more affordable living accommodations, or assistance with paying past due utility bills to ensure stable housing.
Types of Assistance Include:
- Past Due Rent (Up to 3 Months)
- Utility Arrears (Up to 6 Months)
- First Month’s Rent
- Security Deposit
- Past Due Mortgage (Dunkirk only)
- Ongoing Rental Subsidy (Up to 6 Months, if Qualified)
