Are You A Parent?
COI believes that one of the keys to school success is to help youth unlock their critical thinking skills. Our trained staff members provide tested lesson plans that help youth to go beyond the classroom to put what they learn from 8 am to 3 pm into a context they can use for the rest of their life. Our curriculum focuses on:
- Building character and financial assets
- Civic Responsibility
- Leadership development
- Community Service
- Health and fitness for life
Our program utilizes the concept of peer mentoring. We allow the older youth to teach which reinforces learning while the younger children get the positive experience of having a role model to guide them.
COI feels strongly that everyone has the right and the capacity to build assets which will be able to sustain them. It is never too early to begin teaching and practicing this with children and youth. With all of the demands of the school day, teaching the key elements of money and money management is difficult for the most dedicated teachers. That is why our services include those key concepts wrapped up in activities and projects. This allows us to supplement all of the great foundations kids get in school and develop all of their assets.
Leaders are made every day in the after school program whether it’s explaining the rules of a game or mentoring a younger student. Our youth learn both the theory as well as the practical application of being a leader.
One of the many ways a youth might be able to show off his planning and leading talents are through community service. At the same time, they learn the valuable lesson of giving back to the community.
Physical Fitness and Nutrition
Studies have shown that physical fitness and good nutrition aid in the learning process. COI works with many of the school districts in Chautauqua County on a comprehensive approach to nutrition and fitness.
