PROGRAM: Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program

Rental subsidy program funded by the federal department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Assists families with paying a portion of their rent, which is based on the families' income.

Helps provide low to moderate income families with a choice of decent, safe, and affordable housing.

Provides a Family Self-Sufficiency component which works to empower clients to improve their economic situation.

Provide a home ownership option to participants who qualify.

There is a waiting list

COI has administered the Section 8 Program since 1976

Original 100 units of subsidy has grown to 879 units in Chautauqua County

Program brings in approximately 3 million federal dollars to Chautauqua County each year
