SERVICE AREA: The Safe House of Chautauqua County
Description of Program / Service Provided:
A runaway and homeless youth shelter.
providing a safe place to stay for “at-risk” youth under the age
of 18. Other assistance includes food, clothing, transportation,
crisis counseling, self-sufficiency facilitation services, advocacy, and
referrals.
Provides independent living classes
for shelter residents and all youth 21 years and under.
The goal of the program is to,
whenever possible, re-united youth with their families while assisting in
securing a safe and stable living option.
Aftercare services provided for up to
three months to help ensure stability in living option.
In cooperation with NYS Office of
Children & Family Services and the Chautauqua County Department of
Social Services provide respite care for youth as part of TANF prevention
services for eligible families.
History:
Established in 1993.
A collaborative effort by St. Luke’s Episcopal
Church, Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc., Chautauqua Region Community
Foundation, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, New York State
Office of Children and Family Services, and Chautauqua County Youth Bureau.
