MISSION STATEMENT

"Maximize the development of young children and families through community partnerships, resulting in optimal school success.".

Head Start...A positive vision for the future. 

HISTORY:

Federally funded program in existence nationally and in Chautauqua County since 1965.  Early Head Start began service for infants, toddlers, and pregnant women in 1985.  Collaborations with Dunkirk and Falconer School Districts to provide Universal Pre-K Services.

DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAM / SERVICES PROVIDED:

Head Start and Early Head Start are comprehensive child development programs that serve children from birth to age 5, pregnant women and their families.  Services are child focused and have the over all goal of increasing school readiness of young children in low income families. Services are designed to foster school success, parent involvement, and view parents as a child's first and foremost teacher.

Major services areas:

Education – Child Development services that facilitate Head Start children beginning school ready to learn.  Activities are lead to positive child outcomes in a variety of critical learning areas.  

Disabilities: Children with disabilities are integrated into the Head Start program.

Family and Community Partnerships: Goal setting and progress towards self sufficiency

Health:  Services include, Health education, attachment to a medical home for all families, screenings, and nutrition.

Fees & Eligibility: No fees, eligibility based on family size and income, children 0-5, special need, or pregnant women.
