PROGRAM: Alzheimer’s Community Service Program

Description of Program/Service Provided:

Personal Care Aide Instruction—Alzheimer’s disease and the care of A.D. patients. Training designed to meet in-service requirements.

One hour Alzheimer’s disease overview for initial training of new staff.

Advanced Alzheimer’s training for Registered Nurses.

Informational lectures to community groups.

Respite Care

Lending library consisting of videos and books.

Information and education provided to family members and primary care providers of those afflicted with Alzheimer’s disease.

Support Group meets the second Wednesday of the month at 2:30p.m. at the Steger Apartments, 15 N. Main Street, Dunkirk, NY 14048.  Call 366-3335 for more information.

History:

The program is funded through a grant from the  New York State Department of Health, Bureau of Chronic Diseases.  The five-year grant began in April 2000 and has been extended through March 31, 2006.
