National Child Development Expert Dr. T. Berry
Brazelton Visits Chautauqua County


National Child Development Expert Dr. T. Berry Brazelton together with his National Seminar Series Colleagues presented a free Parent Evening Talk at J.C.C.'s Sharmann Theater in Jamestown, N. Y. on Wednesday, June 16th. Dr. Brazelton's presentation focused on the many stresses parents face today and the pressures imposed on them to perform by offering solutions for relieving these stresses. His talk was based on an attachment model, with the goal of establishing healthy self-esteem in both the parent and the child.

Dr. Brazelton is credited with establishing the Child Development Unit (a pediatric training and research center) at Children's Hospital in Boston, M. A. and he has appeared on national television shows such as Good Morning America. Dr. Brazelton is also a regular contributor to Family Circle Magazine.

Dr. Brazelton also held a Professional Training Seminar on Thursday, June 17th, 2004. Seminar topics included: Anticipating Turmoil as an Opportunity for Growth - Touchpont in Adolescent Development; Touchpoints in Development: A model for Early Intervention; Helping Children Cope with Stressful Life Events; Brazelton's Touchpoints Model: A Framework for Personal Practice and Community Collaboration. The event was sponsored by the Chautauqua Child Care Council, a program of Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc. Partial funding for this even t was provided by the New York State Bureau of Early Childhood Services, and the Office of Children & Family Services. Additional major contributors include: Dr. Tariq Khan, Chautauqua County Association for the Education of Young Children, Chautauqua County Head Start/Early Head Start, Chautauqua County Even Start, and Chautauqua County Department of Social Services.

Dr. Brazelton spoke to an audience of about 300 for each presentation.

The Chautauqua Child Care Council, a program of Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc. honored child cared providers across Chautauqua County who celebrated their 5, 10, 15, and 20 year anniversaries with its Second annual Provider Appreciation Dinner on Thursday, May 6 at the Cassadaga Legion.

The Second annual Provider Appreciation Dinner was held in conjunction with National Provider Appreciation Day, Celebrated on May 7. (Continued on page 8.)
