The Alzheimer's Community Service Program was the recent recipient
of an additional $9,200 in funding from income tax check off contributions
made by New York State tax payers, to the Alzheimer's Disease assistance
Fund, to support services for people with Alzheimer's disease and their
families. The amount of this funding is dependant on the generosity
of those contributions.
The purpose of the Alzheimer's Disease assistance Fund is to enhance
the support services for people with Alzheimer's disease and their
caregivers. the services to be provided may include:
- education and training for health care practitioners, caregivers,
volunteers and informal caregivers regarding services for or treatment
of persons with Alzheimer's disease.
- counseling for families of persons with Alzheimer's disease
- respite services for informal caregivers of persons with Alzheimer's
disease
- Technological assistance for persons with Alzheimer's Disease
The Alzheimer Community Service Program, funded by the NYS Dept of
Health and administered by Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc. has been given
the go ahead to use this additional funding to provide respite to family
care providers. The respite services will be provided by the COI Home
Care Program, whose employees have received specialty training in caring
for someone with Alzheimer's Disease.
Program Manager, Anne Massar, added, "This is a wonderful opportunity
for two of our health services to collaborate in enabling primary care
providers of those with Alzheimer's Disease, to take advantage of the
free service. Please call 366-3335 for more information to access this
service." |
