Child Care Council Participates in Roundtable

The Chautauqua Child Care Council, in conjunction with Success by Six, Cornell Cooperative Extension, Chautauqua County Association for the Education of Young Children (CCAEYC), and the Chautauqua County Industrial Development Agency (IDA) hosted its second annual Community Dialogue and Roundtable Discussion that focused on the impact of quality care on local and statewide economic and workforce development on October 1st at the JCC North Training Conference Center in Dunkirk.

Local business leaders, elected government officials and planning groups participated in the free event that was also open to the public.  Moderators for the roundtable included Patricia Meyers, Executive Director of the NYS Association for the Education of Young Children, and Michelle Sandoz-Dennis, NYS Child Care Coordinating Council.

Representatives from local planning groups and businesses also participated in the roundtable discussion.  A recent study published by the NYS Child Care Coordinating Council entitled “Investing in New York: An Economic Analysis of the Early Care & Education Sector”, was the focus of the dialogue.  The publication highlights the fact that Child Care is an important economic sector and points out that Child Care is a $4.7 billion industry in New York State.  Child Care supports over 750,000 working parents.  Parents using child care collectively earn more than $30 billion.

Currently there are 22,000 small businesses in the child care sector and they employ 119,000 workers across the state.  The Child Care Council is a program of Chautauqua Opportunities, Inc.  For more information on Child Care Council Services, please contact the council at 366-8176 or 664-4999.

Food Drive is Held to Benefit the Safe House

The Jamestown Jammers along with the Jamestown Moose Lodge No. 1681 recently sponsored a canned  food drive for The Safe House of Chautauqua County.

Those who brought a canned food item with them to the Jamestown Jammers game on July 23, 2004 received one free ticket to an upcoming Jamestown Jammers game.

Although the Jammers unfortunately lost to the Auburn Doubledays, a good time was had by all those in attendance with a successful  $876.50 donated in canned food items.

After the Jammers game, fans were treated to a fireworks show sponsored by The Moose Lodge.

Thank you to the Jamestown Jammers and the Jamestown Moose Lodge No. 1681 for helping make the canned food drive a huge success!!
